Materials:

  • 320-100 Fun Fur Yarn: White
  • 861-100 Vanna's Glamour Yarn: Diamond
  • Lion Brand Knitting Needles - Size 10 [6 mm]
  • Lion Brand Stitch Holders
  • Lion Brand Split Ring Stitch Markers
  • Lion Brand Large-Eye Blunt Needles (Set of 6)
  • Circular knitting needle size 3 (3.25 mm), 29 in. (73.5 cm) long

Notes:

  1. Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow the pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning.
  2. Shrug is worked in 5 pieces; Back, Left Front, Right Front and 2 Sleeves. After the pieces are seamed, ribbed edging is worked around the entire outer edge of the Shrug.
  3. A circular needle is used to work the ribbing only. The shrug edging is worked in rounds. Sleeve ribbing is worked back and forth in rows on a circular needle.
  4. When you see 'work even' in the instructions, this means to continue in the pattern stitch you have established without changing the stitch count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.
  5. Stitch Explanation:
    • KFB (knit into front and then back)
    • An increase worked as follows:
      • Knit the next stitch (st) through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
      • Knit the same stitch (st) once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (stitches) on your right hand needle.
      • Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 1 st.
  6. Pattern Stitches:
    • K1, p1 Rib worked back and forth in rows (multiple of 2 stitches)
      • Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
      • Row 2: K the knit sts and P the purl sts.
      • Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.
    • K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (multiple of 2 stitches)
      • Round (rnd) 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
      • Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.

Instructions:

Gauge:

16 sts + 20 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with larger needles and A.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Edging
With RS facing and circular needle, join B on lower edge of Shrug at one side seam, pick up and k242 (266, 282, 308, 334) sts evenly spaced around outside edge of Shrug.
Note: Edging for Shrug is worked all in one piece around outside edge of Shrug. To make this easier, divide the outside edge of the Shrug into equal sections before beginning. Mark these sections with pins or scrap yarn.
For the Shrug, an easy way to divide the edge into sections is to measure the outside edge, then divide that measurement by 10.
Divide the total number of sts that you will need to pick up by 10: 24.2 (26.6, 28.2, 30.8, 33.4).
Now, pick up sts in each section as evenly spaced as possible as follows:
For example, for size S, pick up *24 sts in 4 of the sections, pick up 25 sts in the next section; rep from * once more.
For size M, pick up *26 sts in 2 sections, 27 sts in next 3 sections; rep from * once more.
For size L, pick up *28 sts in 4 sections, 29 sts in next section; rep from * once more.
For size 1X, pick up *30 sts in 1 section, 31 sts in next 4 sections; rep from * once more.
For size 2X, pick up *33 sts in 3 sections, 34 sts in next 2 sections; rep from * once more.
Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle.
Work in K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds for 1 in. (2.5 cm).
Bind off.
Weave in ends.
